Meatball Sub Sandwiches

Ingredients:

For the meatballs:

  • 500g Seasoned Meatballs
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (400g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sub rolls or baguette, sliced lengthwise
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until softened, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Add the Seasoned Meatballs to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes.
  4. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce thickens slightly and the meatballs are cooked through.
  5. While the meatballs are simmering, prepare the sub rolls by slicing them lengthwise and placing them on a baking sheet.
  6. Once the meatballs are cooked, spoon them onto the prepared sub rolls. Top with shredded mozzarella cheese.
  7. Place the assembled sub sandwiches in the preheated oven and bake for about 5-7 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  8. Remove the sandwiches from the oven and garnish with fresh basil leaves, if desired.
  9. Serve the meatball sub sandwiches hot, and enjoy!
