The State of Online Meat Delivery in the UAE 2026

Industry Report · United Arab Emirates · 2026

What 70,000+ UAE households actually order from an online butcher. One of the first data-driven looks at online meat delivery in the United Arab Emirates: 180,000+ orders, six months, the UAE.

By MLS UAE · Published July 2026 · Data window: Jan 2026 – Jun 2026

The short answer

Between January and June 2026, 70,000+ UAE customers placed 180,000+ online meat delivery orders across the UAE. 53.6 per cent of customers reordered within the six-month window, and monthly order volume grew 15 per cent from January to a peak in May 2026 — the month of Eid al-Adha. Dubai accounted for 51.9 per cent of orders, and Australian beef dominated sourcing at 45 per cent of category orders. Ribeye remained the top premium steak cut.

 01 The headline numbers

Every figure below is drawn from a single online butcher's order book over the first half of 2026. We publish them because, to our knowledge, no comparable dataset for the UAE online meat category exists in the public domain — and because some of the numbers surprised us.

Metric Figure
Orders placed, Jan 2026 – Jun 2026 180,000+
Unique customers across the UAE 70,000+
Returning customer rate (six-month window) 53.6%
Growth in monthly orders, Jan 2026 → May 2026 +15%
Share from Dubai (single-emirate concentration) 51.9%
Australian beef share of category orders 45%

02 Where the UAE actually orders meat

The Emirates-level split is more concentrated than we expected. Dubai does not just lead the category — it defines its scale. More than half of all orders originate from a single emirate, and Dubai together with Abu Dhabi accounts for roughly two-thirds of the market.

Emirate Orders Share
Dubai 95,000 51.9%
Abu Dhabi 21,000 11.6%
Sharjah 3,500 1.9%
Ajman 1,500 0.8%
Other UAE (neighbourhoods, unclassified) 59,000 32.5%
International (UK & other) 2,000 1.2%

Within Dubai, four neighbourhoods punch above their weight: Business Bay, JVC, Mirdif, and Dubai Marina. If you were opening a physical butcher counter tomorrow, this would be your shortlist.

Online meat delivery is a Dubai-Abu Dhabi story. The northern emirates are a fraction of the market today — and probably the biggest untapped opportunity in the category tomorrow.

03 What the UAE actually eats

The order data upends two assumptions we walked in with. First, that customers would spread orders evenly across proteins. They don't — beef is the entire game. Second, that the premium category would be dominated by Wagyu. It isn't. Wagyu at all marbling grades combined accounts for approximately 4 per cent of category-tagged orders; Australian grass-fed beef alone accounts for 22.6 per cent.

Category Orders Share*
Australian grass-fed beef 92,000 22.6%
Australian Black Angus beef 74,000 18.1%
New Zealand grass-fed beef 54,000 13.2%
Beef boxes & bundles 34,000 8.2%
Chicken / poultry 32,000 8.0%
Australian lamb 21,000 5.0%
Australian Wagyu (all grades) 17,000 4.3%
South African grass-fed beef 10,000 2.5%
Fresh Pakistani beef 8,500 2.1%
Fresh Pakistani mutton 6,500 1.6%

*Share of 400,000+ category-tagged line items across 180,000+ orders (orders can contain multiple categories).

The ribeye premium

Among paid premium steak cuts, ribeye is the top-selling single cut. Australian grass-fed ribeye SKUs (the four-steak and ten-steak offers) together generated more than 18,000 orders in the first half of 2026, outselling striploin as a single cut and tenderloin as a single cut. Ribeye is the premium cut UAE households actually reach for when they trade up.

The burger box surprise

The single most-ordered paid product in the catalogue is not a steak. It's a 20-burger beef box, appearing in 16,000 orders over six months — the highest paid-SKU order count in the window. This tells us something specific about the UAE household: convenience formats outsell prestige cuts on frequency, even in a market willing to trade up on price.

 04 The country-of-origin question

Australia dominates. Of all category-tagged orders in the first half of 2026, Australian beef (grass-fed, Black Angus, and Wagyu combined) accounts for roughly 45 per cent of category share. New Zealand takes second place at 13 per cent, driven almost entirely by grass-fed beef mince. South African, Brazilian, Pakistani, Indian, and Japanese sources together account for less than 8 per cent.

Origin Category Orders
Australia Grass-fed beef 92,000
Australia Black Angus beef 74,000
New Zealand Grass-fed beef 54,000
Australia Lamb 21,000
Australia Wagyu (all grades) 17,000
South Africa Grass-fed beef 10,000
Pakistan Fresh beef 8,500
Pakistan Fresh mutton 6,500
Brazil Grass-fed beef 5,000

 05 The loyalty story

A 53.6 per cent returning customer rate over six months is unusual for any consumer category, and remarkable for a grocery vertical — where industry benchmarks typically hover around 25 to 30 per cent. More than half of every household that tried the service in the first half of 2026 came back within the same window. What it tells us is that online meat delivery, once a household tries it, replaces a habit rather than supplements one. It behaves less like a treat purchase and more like a subscription.

The implication is straightforward: acquisition economics in this category are forgiving, but only for operators who can deliver quality consistently enough to earn the second order.

More than half the customers in this dataset reordered within six months. That number, more than any other in this report, is the reason we chose to publish it.

 06 Growth trajectory

Monthly order volume grew from 28,500 orders in January 2026 to 33,000 in May 2026 — a 15 per cent increase over five months, holding at 33,000 in June. The May peak coincides with Eid al-Adha, a moment when meat consumption in Muslim-majority markets historically spikes. What the data suggests is that Eid may be structurally, not just promotionally, the category's peak — though the pattern will need multiple years of data to confirm.

Month Orders Δ vs. Jan 2026
January 2026 28,500 baseline
February 2026 28,000 -2%
March 2026 29,000 +1%
April 2026 29,500 +4%
May 2026 (Eid al-Adha) 33,000 +15%
June 2026 33,000 +15%

07 Six takeaways for the UAE food industry

  • Online meat delivery is a beef category, first and foremost. Beef of all origins accounts for roughly 60 per cent of category-tagged orders; chicken and lamb combined make up under a fifth.
  • Ribeye is the top-selling single premium cut. It outsells both striploin and tenderloin as individual cuts, and is the premium cut UAE households reach for when they trade up.
  • Grass-fed Australian beef is the default assumption. Wagyu is a premium sub-category, not the reference point — Wagyu at all marbling grades combined accounts for approximately 4 per cent of category orders.
  • May 2026 — the month of Eid al-Adha — was the single busiest month for online meat delivery in our six-month window, suggesting Eid may be structurally, not just promotionally, the category's peak.
  • Convenience formats — burger boxes, mince boxes, 24-steak family packs — outsell single-cut orders on frequency. The UAE household stocks a freezer; it doesn't shop for one meal.
  • Dubai plus Abu Dhabi equals roughly two-thirds of the addressable market. Sharjah, Ajman, and the northern emirates remain almost entirely under-served.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most popular cut of meat ordered online in the UAE?

Ribeye is the top-selling single premium cut for online meat delivery in the UAE, outselling both striploin and tenderloin as individual cuts in the first half of 2026. The most-ordered paid product overall is not a steak — it is a 20-burger beef box, appearing in 16,000 orders across the six-month window.

Where does most online meat delivered in the UAE come from?

Australian beef (grass-fed, Black Angus, and Wagyu combined) is the dominant sourcing origin for online meat delivery in the UAE, accounting for approximately 45 per cent of category-tagged orders in H1 2026. New Zealand grass-fed beef is second at roughly 13 per cent; Australian lamb is third at approximately 5 per cent.

What is the returning customer rate for online meat delivery in the UAE?

53.6 per cent of customers in this dataset placed more than one order within the six-month window from January to June 2026 — well above the typical grocery benchmark of 25 to 30 per cent. This suggests online meat delivery behaves more like a subscription service than a one-off purchase.

Which emirate orders the most meat online?

Dubai accounts for 51.9 per cent of online meat delivery orders in this dataset (95,000 orders), followed by Abu Dhabi at 11.6 per cent (21,000 orders), Sharjah at 1.9 per cent (3,500 orders), and Ajman at approximately 0.8 per cent (1,500 orders).

When is peak demand for online meat delivery in the UAE?

May 2026 — the month of Eid al-Adha — was the single busiest month for online meat delivery in this dataset, at 33,000 orders. Order volume in May and June ran approximately 15 per cent above January levels, suggesting Eid may be structurally, not just promotionally, the category's peak — though multiple years of data would be needed to confirm the pattern.

Methodology

All figures are drawn from the anonymised order book of MLS UAE (mlsuae.ae), an online halal meat delivery service operating across the United Arab Emirates, aggregated across its sales platforms. Public-facing volume figures are rounded to protect commercially sensitive exact totals. The dataset covers 180,000+ orders placed between 1 January 2026 and 30 June 2026 by 70,000+ unique customers.

Order volume, product category share, sourcing origin, geographic distribution, and returning customer rate were computed directly from Shopify's sales and analytics tables. Customer identifiers were removed prior to aggregation; only Emirate and city-level location fields were retained. Percentages are rounded to one decimal place.

Percentage share of orders by product category is calculated against the sum of tagged product-type line items (400,000+) and does not equal 100 per cent of unique orders, since a single order can contain multiple category tags. Promotional or complimentary items included with paid orders are excluded from paid-product rankings. Revenue and pricing figures are excluded from this public release.
